Behind the Music "As a child I never spoke - I sang" The story of Loell's way to limelight is a success story that has yet to reach its climax. From being picked up by Warner Chappell to getting signed by major label Curb Records it all points in one direction - straight to the top. But to understand what created this multitalented artist, that composed all the songs for her debut album, we need to rewind the clock a little bit. Growing up Loell was bombarded with music since her father, a minister, and her mother, a gifted singer, spent a great deal of time in the local church where music had a vital function. Here she got exposed to a multitude of musical styles that Loell says has brought openness to all kinds of music. This is perhaps also one of the explanations why Sofia's music sounds like… - her own. After winning the regional fi nals of a music competition in her early teens and forming a jazz trio (!) during high school she met up with Johan Glössner who was to become the arranger and producer of "Right up your face". As a person Sofia describes herself as being strong willed, kind and with an enormous capacity for empathy. So when asked where her songs come from - where she fi nds her motivation - it might not come as a surprise when she states; "…to me writing songs is to give expression to ones impressions". And perhaps that is what great artistry is all about; to fi nd the forms to express everyday events in a manner that opens the eyes of the rest of us. Behind the sound "From writing and producing together we've managed to create a unique sound that's all me…" Behind the impressive sound on "Right up your face" a whole production crew can be found but one name stands out from the rest - Johan Glössner. With his impeccable feel for tasteful arrangements and distinct sounds he has brought Loell's visions to reality. Or as Sofia puts it: "His input gave my songs a more direct feel - and some attitude". Their successful collaboration has resulted in a production that will put a smile on both connoisseurs and consumers. From the immediate and straightforward "Right up your face", with Sofia's glittering vocals on top a steady groove, to the go-get feel of "Utopia", with its abba-esque vocal arrangements and no nonsense guitars, this album stakes its claim on a streamlined pop market.
